Lyrics:
Your love is like a candle
It flickers in the dark
You came into my life
And brightened up my heart
With you by my side
I see the love that I wanna feel
Show me your lovin', baby
Show me that it's real
Just take my hand
I'll make you understand
I want you
You want me
And that's the way it's got to be
Now that you're here
I'm gonna make it clear
Chorus:
Give me the love I need, Give in to me
Just give me the love I need
Hold me, caress me, Give in to me
Hold me, caress me, Give in to me
Give me the love I need, Give in to me
Just give in to me
Your love is like a whisper (whisper)
Saying what I want to hear
Your eyes cry secrets
My heart will dry your tears
Girl, I need to have you near me
Loving I would find
Girl, I would hold your heart
Inside, embrace your mind
Just take my hand
I'll make you understand
I want you
You want me
And that's the way it's got to be
Now that you're here
I'm gonna make it clear
Chorus
Just give me the love I need
I need your lovin' tonight, sweet lady
I wonder what the nights'd be like
Without you near me, yeah
Give in to me, girl
I need you by my side
Just give me the love I need
I need your lovin', baby
I need your love
I need your love
Chorus
[end]
This is JC Chasez's first collaboration with his friends from MMC (Mickey Mouse Club); Michael Egizi was a co-producer of the MMC album (1993), as well as pianist. This song was one of NSync's demo songs (1995?) but was eventually released on Euge Groove (1999) with some changes (notably the saxophone, and changing all leads to JC instead of Justin and Chris).
The Euge Groove version may have been recorded before NSync's demo because its vocals do not include Lance Bass; they feature Tony and Dale (with Justin, Chris, and Joey) on background vocals.
Side note: This song might be listed as "Give Me The Love I Need" on some fansites, but it is "Give In To Me" as per the album. It is also credited as "Give Into Me" on JC's list of published songs.
Overall, the lyrics are pretty, but the melody / music is what nails it. It has an R&B feel to it, with saxophone (in the Euge Groove version), making the song slow and sexy with class and romance.
Like "Space Cowboy", it's hard to nitpick with this song. The first lyric is the only thing I'd consider changing.
"Your love is like a candle" - Although it has pretty imagery, candles easily blow out and don't last long. I know that's a stretch, but love is often compared to other things. Maybe electricity (although that has too many syllables) - it's dangerous / exciting, it comes in waves, sparks, and could "reenergize" someone. Fires are warmer than candles. So is sunlight.
The lyrics are simpler than say those to "Space Cowboy", but they are effective with the music. It's hard to have a romantic song with "intelligent" lyrics.
