Lyrics:
Oh, Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays
Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas
Happy Holidays
We've been waiting all year for this night
When the snow is glistening on the trees outside
And all the stockings are hung by the fireside
Waiting for Santa to arrive
And all the love will show
'Cause everybody knows
It's Christmas time, and
All the kids will see
The gifts under the tree
It's the best time of year for the family
Chorus:
It's a wonderful feeling
Feel the love in the room
From the floor to the ceiling
It's that time of year (that time of year)
Christmas time is here
And with the blessings from above
God sends you his love
And everything's okay
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays
Oh yeah
Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas
Happy Holidays
Bells are ringing
It's time to scream and shout (scream and shout)
And everybody's playing 'cause school's out
Celebrating, the special times we share
Happiness 'cause love is in the air
And all the love will show
'Cause everybody knows
It's Christmas time, and
All the kids will see
The gifts under the tree
It's the best time of year for the family
Chorus
Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas
Happy Holidays, Oh...
Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas
Happy Holidays
No matter what your holiday
It's a time to celebrate
Now put your worries aside
And open up your mind
And see the world right by your side
It's Christmas time
Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas, Merry Christmas
Happy Holidays
Chorus
[end]
For JC's first attempt at a Christmas (happy) song, this was well written. There isn't a strong "good will towards men" theme, but more of a happy "enjoying the holiday season with loved ones" theme.
The lyrics repeat often (not as often as "Bringin' Da Noise") but it's simple message is easily heard and understood.
As with other songs that have frequent repeating verses, this song could have used 1-2 more verses instead of repeating choruses. Since this song is about being awake (not dreaming of sugar plums) and enjoying the celebration, verses could have been about decorating, baking (or smelling the warm sweetness), snowball fights, etc. Sometimes, it feels as if the writers could not think of anything else to say, so they threw in another "Merry Christmas". The repeating words are okay, as the melody makes up for that, but it could have been improved.
